About us

What are the SDGS ?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

The 17 SDGs are integrated—they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability. The creativity, knowhow, technology and financial resources from all of society is necessary to achieve the SDGs in every context.

What is Social Value ?

Social Value is the quantification of the relative importance that people place on the changes they experience in their lives. It captures the wider outcomes of initiatives and doesn’t end the value chain at output, i.e. Social Value considers the ongoing social impact multiplier of  the initiative measuring  people’s experience, positive and negative, intended, and unintended for example increased confidence.

What is SROI ?

Social Return on Investment (SROI) is a framework for measuring and accounting for the much broader concept of social value; it seeks to reduce inequality and environmental degradation and improve wellbeing by incorporating social, environmental and economic costs and benefits. SROI measures change in ways that are relevant to the people or organisations that experience or contribute to it. It tells the story of how change is being created by measuring social, environmental and economic outcomes and uses monetary values to represent them. This enables a ratio of benefits to costs to be calculated. For example, a ratio of 3:1 indicates that an investment of £1 delivers £3 of social value. SROI is about value, rather than money.

What makes us different ?

LNJ’s USP lays out how we localise the focus of the SDGS to be in line with local community issues ensuring that researched areas of intervention which will have the most social good are presented to businesses and individuals who are seeking to make a positive change on people’s lives within their community. As part of our own social value, we employ through Back to Work a recruitment service responding to tackling unemployment.

Who are we ?

LNJ is a dynamic non-profit organisation set up in 2021 to pioneer an understanding of Social Value and to shape its development to help the Jersey community thrive.

It’s fair to say that Social Value is an ever-evolving space with philanthropists dating back to Ancient Greece.  The Public Services (Social Act) 2012 was a big leap forward with people becoming obliged to secure wider social economic and environmental benefits with public service contracts, since then, it has been gaining a more conscience momentum across all sectors even before COVID 19 and the climate emergency.

A notable undeveloped in Jersey, we can help businesses, philanthropists, and public service contractors on their Social Value journey offering expertise in project management and impact measurement to support better decisions to make a difference and maximise their impact.

So, what is Social Value?

In its simplest of forms Social Value is the quantification of the relative importance that people place on the changes they experience in their lives.  It considers the economic changes but also the intangible aspects of wellbeing.

Social Value is created when resource, inputs and policies are combined to generate activities to improve the wellbeing of individuals or society.  Value is subjective by nature, so it’s important to value this from the stakeholder’s perspective.

The stakeholder’s perspective is key to keeping things simple and their outcome data will lead you to the value that has been created, the secret to maximising your impact is to be responsive to that data.

Jersey Context

As a local company we understand its context and the societal systems that work within it.  We align ourselves with local voluntary, community, and social enterprises in seven core areas closely aligned with the UN Sustainable Development goals.  Working with the “third sector” we gain a deeper understanding into the social issues most prevalent in Jersey.
